A Kiss from Rose | Too Far Fridays Are You Kidding Me

Welcome to Too Far Friday, where we pause to reflect on the hard-earned sacrifices of those who came before us. These sacrifices paved the way for the freedoms we often take for granted today. It’s important not to overlook or forget the struggle for respect, equality, and dignity that still echoes through time.

Think about it: generations before us sacrificed so we could have opportunities they only dreamed of. Yet, despite these sacrifices, the daily challenges of being treated with respect and having one’s worth acknowledged are still very real. We can’t just brush off the history that brought us to this point, can we?

“United we stand, divided we fall” isn’t just a catchy phrase from the past. When you look at your family, especially the young girls who represent the future, wouldn’t you want to make sure they have support, guidance, and the strength of a united community behind them?

Imagine the struggles of past generations who endured unimaginable hardships and yet managed to persevere. They stood strong, clung to their dignity, and built legacies to secure a better future for us. Unfortunately, today we sometimes see valuable family land or properties being sold off easily, often because of unresolved personal conflicts. The result? Communities once rich with heritage changing before our eyes, with gentrification taking root where strong family ties once held firm.

Let’s remember great-grandma Julia Alston, who signed her name with an “X” because she couldn’t read or write, yet still found a way to leave a legacy for her family. These are the stories that remind us of the value of supporting our own. Back then, our communities relied on each other and knew the importance of lifting one another up.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to honor their sacrifices by staying united, keeping our history alive, and ensuring that the legacies left to us continue to thrive.

Don’t forget. Don’t ignore. And let’s always hold onto the strength of those who came before us.
