A Kiss from Rose | The Extension of Grace

Give What You Hope to One Day Need

Grace is easy to talk about when we’re the ones who need it. It becomes a little harder when God asks us to extend that same grace to someone else.

To extend grace means recognizing that a person may have gotten something wrong without deciding that everything about them is wrong. It means leaving room for people to learn, apologize, mature, correct themselves, and try again. Grace says, “I see what happened, but I also understand that you are human.”

And let’s be clear—grace is not permission to continuously mistreat you. It doesn’t require you to abandon boundaries, ignore harmful behavior, or repeatedly place yourself in unhealthy situations. You can extend grace and still use wisdom. You can forgive and still require change. You can love someone and still decide that access to you needs to look different.

But sometimes, if we’re not careful, we’ll demand perfection from people while asking God daily to have mercy on our imperfections.

Think about how many times God has extended grace to us.

How many times did we know better…

And still didn’t do better?

How many promises have we made to God and struggled to keep?

How many times have we spoken too quickly, reacted emotionally, misunderstood something, disappointed someone, or simply gotten it wrong?

Yet Lamentations 3:22–23 reminds us that His compassions fail not and His mercies are new every morning.

Every morning.

God wakes us up to another extension of grace.

So maybe before you completely write someone off, ask yourself:

Is this a pattern that requires a boundary—or a human moment that requires grace?

Knowing the difference is wisdom.

Because one day, you may need someone to remember your heart instead of only remembering your mistake.

💌 Grandma’s Corner

Extend grace when grace is appropriate.

Give people room to breathe.

Give them room to correct it.

Give them room to grow.

Give them room to say, “I got that wrong.”

Not because they deserve unlimited chances…

But because none of us wants our entire character judged by our worst moment.

“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.” — Matthew 5:7 (KJV)

Today, don’t just thank God for the grace He gives you.

Ask Him to give you enough heart…

to extend some of it to somebody else.

Because sometimes the greatest evidence that we’ve received God’s grace…

is how gently we handle another person when it’s finally our turn to give it.
