A Kiss from Rose | Fending for Yourself
SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO FEND FOR YOURSELF!
Everybody can’t come to your rescue, and everybody isn’t supposed to.
Now, let’s have a little Grandma’s Corner conversation!
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you looked to the left, looked to the right, checked your phone, and realized…
AIN’T NOBODY COMING TO HANDLE THIS FOR YOU!
Oh, that’s a different kind of wake-up call!
Because it’s wonderful to have people who love you, support you, pray for you, and show up when life gets difficult.
But there comes a time when you have to stop waiting for somebody else to make the decision, have the conversation, solve the problem, or take the first step.
SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO FEND FOR YOURSELF!
That means learning how to speak up when something isn’t right.
Making decisions without needing everybody’s approval.
Taking responsibility for your finances, your health, your peace, and your personal growth.
Learning what you don’t know instead of expecting somebody else to figure everything out.
And yes, sometimes it means having a conversation you’ve been avoiding because you’re hoping somebody else will handle the uncomfortable part!
OH, WE’VE ALL BEEN THERE!
But here’s what fending for yourself does NOT mean.
It doesn’t mean you have to become hard, suspicious, selfish, or unwilling to receive help.
INDEPENDENCE IS NOT THE SAME AS ISOLATION!
Galatians 6:5 says, “For every man shall bear his own burden.” (KJV)
Yet Galatians 6:2 also tells us to bear one another’s burdens.
See how that works?
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE, BUT DON’T BE TOO PROUD TO ACCEPT SUPPORT!
Some responsibilities are yours to carry. Other burdens are too heavy to face alone.
And sometimes God strengthens you through the very people He places in your life.
But don’t confuse having support with handing somebody else the responsibility for living your life.
You can appreciate help without becoming dependent on someone else’s willingness to rescue you.
You can ask for guidance and still make your own decisions.
You can love people deeply and still learn how to stand on your own two feet.
AND HERE’S THE REAL GROWTH!
When you learn to fend for yourself, you stop measuring people’s love by how often they save you.
You begin appreciating their presence without making them responsible for your progress.
So make the call. Learn the skill. Set the boundary. Handle the business. Ask for help when you need it, and do your part when it’s yours to do.
Because God didn’t give you a life just so you could sit around waiting for somebody else to live it for you!
BE GRATEFUL FOR THE HANDS THAT HELP YOU, BUT DON’T FORGET TO USE THE HANDS GOD GAVE YOU!
