A Kiss from Rose | Showing Up Not Showing Off

Yesterday, I had a very interesting conversation, which I said would make great messages for Grandma’s Corner.

This week’s messages will be dedicated to that conversation.

Always remember we can learn from everything. Now which scriptures correlates to today’s message? See the scriptures at the end.

Let’s get into it.

There is a difference between showing up and showing off, and most people can feel it the moment you walk into a room.

Showing up means you come with purpose.

You come prepared.

You come ready to contribute, listen, learn, and do the work.

Showing off means you come looking for attention.

Looking for applause.

Looking to prove something to people who may not even be watching as closely as you think.

Showing up says, “I’m here to add value.”

Showing off says, “I’m here so you can notice me.”

One builds trust.

The other builds noise.

The truth is, people who are confident in who they are don’t have to perform for the room. They don’t have to announce themselves every five minutes or remind everyone what they bring to the table.

Their presence speaks.

Their consistency speaks.

Their work speaks.

And over time, people begin to recognize something powerful about them.

They didn’t come to be seen.

They came to serve the moment.

That kind of energy changes rooms.

Because showing up is about commitment, reliability, and purpose. It is about being the person who can be counted on, even when no one is clapping.

Showing off, on the other hand, fades quickly. It shines for a moment and then disappears the second the attention moves somewhere else.

But showing up creates something lasting.

It builds credibility.

It builds relationships.

It builds respect.

And in the end, the people who consistently show up rarely need to show off at all.

Their work has already introduced them.

📖 Colossians 3:23

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Connection:

This verse reflects the idea of showing up with purpose, doing your work sincerely rather than performing for applause or recognition.

📖 Matthew 6:1

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.”

Connection:

Jesus warns against showing off good deeds simply to gain attention. The focus should be on integrity, not visibility.

📖 Proverbs 27:2

“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.”

Connection:

This verse perfectly matches the principle that your work should speak for you, not self-promotion.

📖 1 Peter 5:6

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.”

Connection:

When you show up humbly and faithfully, God handles the elevation. There is no need to force attention
