A Kiss from Rose| I Am Happy Being Last

Usually, no one wants to be at the end of the line. It means you have to wait, and no one honestly wants to wait. Well, number one, the uncertainty of it all. Secondly, the lack of control you have with the process. Lastly, everyone wants everything right now! We are spoiled; we want it quickly, and we feel entitled. Most will not admit it, but it is the truth. I remember being in Mrs. E.D. Ferguson's 5th-grade class at James Simmons Elementary School and being last. Last in the lunch line, that is. It was always me and Christopher W. complaining on Mexican pizza day. It was the best pizza, but somedays they would run out when it came to our turn. I haven't been in elementary school in a long time; however, I vividly remember this. I was so over my last name, which I felt if I had a last name at the beginning of the alphabet I would not be going through this. I was tired of being at the end of the line. One day, Mrs. Ferguson started with the W's, and Christopher and I were at the front of the line and got our Mexican pizza. Nothing but teeth and chatter that day. I was not complaining nor infuriated about my last name.

As we grow into adulthood, in most cases, we are still often upset about being last and being last on the job, in friendships, marriage, and/ in the family. I am sure many of you have heard someone say, "I am always last on the list." Well, just like Mrs. Ferguson changed the order of the list (only a couple of times did she do this, Christopher and I had more days of missing Mexican pizza). God can permanently change the order. Oh, most certainly, I have been last in the lunch line, friendships, marriage, family, and countless other things; nevertheless, God has changed the order. Do you remember the parable of the vineyard worker in Matthew 20:1-16? Well, read it today. What I will say is God reversed the order.

If you feel like you are last, instead of complaining, say this:

Lord, I trust You, and I am happy to be last; because I know you will change the order. I know You will turn it around. I know You will change the atmosphere. I am faithful over a few things, and I am full of faith that You will bless me with more extraordinary things. In Jesus' name, Amen.
