Are You Hard to Love?
Have you built a wall so high that no one can get in yet yearn for someone to tear it down?
Consider this: Is it fair to expect others to dismantle something you constructed to keep them out?
Imagine facing a brick wall. How long would you stand before you felt it was a lost cause?
From the inside, you might think, "As long as it takes." But from the outside, how would you feel?
Would you dedicate your life to staring at the wall without hope of ever getting in?
Life requires us to see from both perspectives, walking in each other's shoes to truly understand the challenges faced by both sides.
It's unfair to expect others to tear down the walls we built without understanding their perspective, just as it's unfair to demand unconditional patience from those standing outside the wall, unsure if they'll ever be let in.
Only God has the perfect ability to penetrate these walls without damage. Only He can see the full picture and understand why we built them in the first place.
The Unfairness of Both Sides
From the inside, the wall feels like protection, a safeguard against hurt and vulnerability. But it also isolates us, keeping out love and support.
From the outside, the wall is an obstacle, a barrier to connection. It requires tremendous effort and patience to even attempt to breach it, often without any assurance of success.
God's Unique Ability to Penetrate Our Walls
Psalm 18:2 reminds us: "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." God is our ultimate fortress, yet unlike our walls, He offers refuge, not isolation.
Jeremiah 29:11 offers hope: "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" God sees beyond our walls and envisions a future filled with hope.
Revelation 3:20 provides a powerful image of God's patience and love: "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." God patiently waits, ready to enter our lives if we let Him.
Only God can accurately see all the reasons behind our walls and help us bring them down. It may seem impossible for those on the outside, but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
A Call to Reflect
Let us reflect on the walls we've built and seek God's help to bring them down. Let us also empathize with those standing outside, waiting with love and patience. In doing so, we open our hearts to the profound, transformative love that only God can provide.
